| Tricky one to critique this – if the tones in this shot were a woman, I’d have asked it out to dinner and be desperately searching for the money to buy an engagement ring – they’re truly stunning and create a fascinating, sophisticated effect. If I was rating the shot on tone alone, I wouldn’t be able to, as a 10 wouldn’t do this justice. So what’s the problem then? I’ll come straight out and say that the angle is just too disconcerting for me – I think it’s particularly because the dark wedge at the bottom seems to invade the shot, and because of it, it draws your attention away from the clothes line. Straightening out the shot wouldn’t do it, and nor would cropping. I think it really would have worked better had you angled the camera upwards a little more, just to take out a little of the wedge, while bringing in more at the top of the shot – as it is, I think the windows could do with a little more space above them, and this would have the dual result of removing some of the darkness, while bringing in a little more space higher up. Cracking stuff though – but I’m sorry the mark doesn’t reflect the quality of the toning. Out of interest, was the toning straight from camera or did you adjust it later? | James Oaten (03/08/2006) | 7 |
| More great lighting Tommy. I love the dinginess created by the dirty yellow looking concrete and greeny panel. Well seen. | Meredith Lewis (02/08/2006) | 8 |
| Details, textures, dust, shadows and pallette. Awsome. | Ian Gav (02/08/2006) | 10 |
| I love the lighting (great shadows) in this and the way you've captured a little piece of day-to-day life. Excellent! | Nick Lewis (Editor) (01/08/2006) | 9 |

| Thanks for the critiques, guys, I appreciate it! | Tommy Ga Ken Wan (03/08/2006) |
| Thanks, James! Toning was pretty much straight from camera, I just made some slight adjutstments to contrast and then pushed the saturation in RAWshooter. | Tommy Ga Ken Wan (04/08/2006) |
| Although looking at the wedge on my (calibrated) home laptop, it's not quite so bad - and the fact that there's a lot more detail in there does diminish the effect I was talking about - that said though, the angle is still a little disconcerting! | James Oaten (05/08/2006) |
